Flexible Pathways to Honors Degrees at DBS Global University

The new guidelines from the Indian University Grants Commission (UGC) for Four-Year Undergraduate Programs (FYUP) are designed to give students more flexibility and choices in their education.

Now, you can earn a four year undergraduate honors degree by choosing from a variety of pathways. Whether you're passionate about diving deep into research, gaining practical experience through industry attachments, exploring your entrepreneurial spirit with a start-up, or broadening your knowledge with a package of additional courses, DBS Global University provides a pathway for you. These diverse options aim to cater to your varied interests and career aspirations, giving you the freedom to tailor your education to your personal goals.

Pathways Description

1. Research Pathway To provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage deeply in research and develop their research skills. Suggested Credits
Components:
· Research Project: Students undertake a significant Research Project or dissertation under the guidance of a faculty mentor. 20
· Research Methodology Course: A mandatory course to equip students with the necessary research skills, including data collection, analysis, and academic writing. 4
· Seminars and Workshops: Participation in seminars, workshops, and conferences to present their research findings and gain feedback. 8
· Publications: Encouragement to publish research work in academic journals or present at conferences / Patents: File a patent based on innovative technological development 8
Outcome: Students complete a substantial piece of research work, demonstrating their ability to conduct independent research, which can be a precursor to pursuing higher studies or research-oriented careers.
2. Industry Attachment Pathway To bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices for undergraduate students by providing practical industry experience.
Components:
· Internships: Extended internships or industry projects where students work in a real-world environment. 20
· Industry Mentorship: guidance from Industry professionals who can provide insights and support during the internship period. 4
· Industry-Oriented Courses: Courses designed in collaboration with industry partners to ensure relevance to current industry needs. 12
· Skill Development Workshops: Training in specific industry-relevant skills, such as project management, technical skills, or soft skills. 4
Outcome: Students gain practical experience, making them job-ready and enhancing their employability prospects upon graduation.
3. Start-up Pathway To foster an entrepreneurial mindset among undergraduate students and support them in developing their own start-up ventures.
Components:
· Entrepreneurship Courses: Courses covering entrepreneurship, business planning, marketing, finance, and legal aspects of starting a business. 12
· Incubation Support: Access to incubation centers, mentoring from entrepreneurs, and support services such as legal and financial advice. 8
· Business Plan Development: Students develop and present a detailed business plan for their start-up. 12
· Pitching and Funding Opportunities:Opportunities to pitch their business ideas to potential investors and secure funding. 8
Outcome: Students are equipped to start and run their own businesses, contributing to innovation and economic growth.
4. Super Specialised Courses Pathway To allow undergraduate students in super specialized areas in their domain to broaden their knowledge base and skill set through additional coursework.
Components:
· Advanced Discipline Courses: Additional courses in the student’s major discipline to gain deeper knowledge and expertise. 12
· Interdisciplinary Courses: Courses from different disciplines to foster a well-rounded education. 12
· Skill Development Courses: Courses focused on developing specific skills such as communication, critical thinking, data analysis, etc. 8
· Capstone Project: An integrative project that brings together the learning from the additional courses, demonstrating the application of knowledge in a practical context. 8
Outcome: Students achieve a more comprehensive education, enhancing their academic and professional versatility.
NOTES · Credits: Each pathway is designed to meet the credit requirements set by the UGC for the honours degree.
· Evaluation: Continuous assessment through projects, presentations, exams, and practical work.
By offering these diverse pathways, the new UGC guidelines aim to cater to the varied interests and career aspirations of students, providing them with the flexibility to tailor their education to their goals.
