Admission Procedure
Application and Sessions
- Applications for Ph.D. programs at DBS Global University are accepted twice a year: January and July sessions.
- Admission is available for both Full-time and Part-time Ph.D. programs.
Application Process
- Applications must be submitted online only, along with required documents and an online payment of Rs 750/- via Credit/Debit card.
- A single form applies to one program only and is valid for one session.
- Transfers from other campuses are permitted once the application is submitted to DBS Global University and after the confirmation of seat availability, NoC is obtained from the parent university (from where the transfer is sought).

Selection Process
The selection process consists of the Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) and an Interview, following UGC Ph.D. guidelines.
- PET-exempt candidates (based on criteria in the eligibility section) will only attend the Interview.

Additional Information
- Candidates will be informed about requirements related to their application, selection process dates, times, and venues via the Admission Microsite at www.dgu.ac or through the whatsapp.
- It is the candidate’s responsibility to regularly check the admission microsite for updates and to select a date for the PET. A separate communication via email will be sent in this regard.
- Candidates applying for multiple Ph.D. programs must ensure they appear for the selection process of each program on different dates.
Admission Confirmation
- Selected candidates will be notified via the Admission Microsite.
- An online admission letter will be available for printing within stipulated time of selection, detailing fee payment instructions, and commencement details.
- The admission offer is provisional, valid only for the specific program and academic session applied for, and will be cancelled if conditions are not fulfilled within the specified time.
Note
- Working applicants must submit an NOC at the time of registration and orientation, within a month of selection.

Instructions for Submission of Online Application Form
- Choose Your Program and Campus: At the start, carefully select your Ph.D. program.
- Eligibility: Only fill out the application form if you are confident about your eligibility for the program and can submit all required documents on time.
Master’s Degree in relevant field from any accredited Indian or Foreign University with a minimum of 55% marks or grade point average.
OR
Four years Bachelor's degree with minimum 75% / 8 CGPA is eligible to directly apply for Ph.D programs.
Documents Required During Ph.D. Form Filling
- Photograph: Scanned passport size photograph (jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp), dimensions 3.5 x 4.5 cm.
- Class X Mark Sheet: Scanned copy (jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp).
- Post-Graduation Mark Sheet: Scanned copy of the marks sheet till the final semester/year (jpg, gif, png, jpeg, bmp).
Preliminary Research Idea: A document not exceeding 1000 words, to be uploaded during application.
Guidelines for writing a Preliminary Research Idea
- Purpose of study and factors prompting to undertake the research work.
- Broad outline about the research work that you have planned in the area of specialization selected by you.
- While writing the outline please make sure to include some indication about the methodology that you wish to employ.
Employment Verification Certificate: Applicable for those applying for a Part-time Ph.D. program
- Valid Email ID: Ensure you have a valid personal email ID.
Important Information
- Online Application Only: Applications must be submitted online. Hard copies will not be accepted.
- Registration Requirement: Your application form will not be registered until all required documents are submitted. Final semester/year post-graduate students may apply, and a PET will be conducted, for such candidates with the undertaking of fulfilment of all requisite qualification.
- No Guarantee of Admission: Submission of the application form does not guarantee a selection procedure date or admission. Forms may be rejected for document deficiencies, not following procedures, or other valid reasons.
- Application Form Number and Password: Upon submission, an Application Form Number and Password will be generated, which you will need for future reference. An email will be sent to the registered email ID.
- Keep a Copy: It is advisable to keep a printed copy of the online application form.

- Check if your form has been received
- Check the status of your form
- Select the date for the selection procedure and download the Admit Card

Important points
Date of Registration
- The registration date for Ph.D. candidates will correspond to the actual registration date for the respective July and January batches.
Residency Period
- Full-Time Candidates: The minimum residency period in the Department/Constituent unit is typically three years.
- Part-Time Candidates: There is no residency period, but attendance in Ph.D. coursework and other academic activities is mandatory as scheduled.
Attendance Requirement
- Full Attendance: Ph.D. scholars (both Full-Time and Part-Time) are expected to maintain full attendance (100%) in each course.
- Minimum Attendance: A minimum of 75% attendance in each course is required to be eligible for end-semester examinations.
- Promotion Requirement: Full-Time Ph.D. scholars must achieve at least 75% attendance out of the total working days each semester to avoid an "Unsatisfactory" Semester Progress Report.
Course Work
- Compulsory Coursework: All Ph.D. candidates must complete the assigned coursework and pass a written examination.
- Duration: The coursework period is typically a minimum of six months.
- Grading: To earn credits for a course unit, a candidate must achieve at least a Grade B+ (7 points on a 10-point scale). Failure to achieve this grade will result in a second opportunity to improve, failing which the candidate's registration may be cancelled.
- Time Frame: Coursework must be completed within one semester, not exceeding one academic year from provisional registration.
Tentative Class Timings During Coursework Period
- Ph.D. Full-Time: All working days, 9:15 am - 6:10 pm.
- Ph.D. Part-Time: Saturdays and Sundays, 9:15 am - 6:10 pm.
Comprehensive Examination
- Requirement: Upon completion of coursework, candidates must pass a comprehensive examination testing their knowledge in their research field and their academic preparation.
- Format: The examination includes both written and oral components and is conducted by the concerned institution. A minimum Grade B+ (7 points on a 10-point scale) is required to pass.

Note:
- Fees are payable on a semester basis, with two semesters per year. Scholars must pay the fee for the minimum period (3 years for Full-Time Ph.D. and 4 years for Part-Time Ph.D.) and for any additional period until thesis submission, with a maximum duration of 6 years.
- Scholarship/Financial Aid/Fee concession is available for selected scholars, including DBSGU academic/non-academic staff, JRF/SRF/RA employed at the University, national-level fellowship holders, if applicable, as per current policies.
- Fees are subject to revision as decided by the University from time to time.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission
Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. Program, whether full-time or part-time, must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree: A Master’s degree from a recognized Indian or foreign university/institute in the relevant field with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
- Bachelor’s Degree: A four-year Bachelor’s degree from a recognized Indian or foreign university/institute in the relevant field with a minimum of 75% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
- Pre-1986 Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants who completed their first-year degree course (undergraduate course) by June 4, 1986, regardless of the duration, will be considered equivalent to those who completed a three-year first-degree course. Applicants with a two-year first degree who enrolled after June 4, 1986, must undergo a one-year bridge course, as per UGC notification dated August 17, 2015.
- Professional Qualifications: Applicants with Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualifications from 'The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India' (ICAI), Cost and Works Accountancy from ICWAI, or Company Secretary qualifications from ICSI with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade are eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programs in the relevant field.
- Foreign/NRI Applicants: Foreign/NRI applicants or those with a Master’s degree from a foreign university must provide an equivalence certificate from AIU along with their online application form.
Note: {A relaxation of 5% in marks, from 55% to 50%, or a corresponding relaxation in grade, may be granted to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently abled and other eligible categories, as per prevailing UGC Regulations; or to those who obtained their Master's degree prior to September 19, 1991}
Exemption from PhD Entrance Test/Written Test
Candidates who have cleared an All India National Level Competitive Examination in the relevant field, such as NET of UGC/CSIR/ICAR (ASRB), ICAR-AICE-JRF/SRF (PhD), GPAT, ICMR, GATE, or DST-INSPIRE within the last 2 years* of the PhD session (January or July) they are applying for at DBS Global University, will be exempted from the written test of the Ph.D. Selection Process. These candidates must appear for the interview round only.
To be considered for exemption, candidates must submit a scanned copy of the issued certificate (not the scorecard) along with the application form or via email no later than two days before the PET date. Exempted candidates will receive a message of exemption on their admission microsite/admit card before the PET. Candidates who do not receive such a message must appear for the PET (Ph.D. Entrance Test).
Research Assistant
Financial Support will be provided to selected Fulltime Ph.D. students on a vacancy basis in the form of Ph.D. Assistantship, subject to terms and conditions as per the University rules.
1: INR 40000 per month plus hostel accommodation. The candidate needs an average of eight hours of Teaching Assistantship per week.
In-case Research Assistant requires accommodation on campus the same shall be arranged (subject to availability) at the monthly rates mentioned as under;

Note 1: Rent subvention by the Institution is applicable only if specific duties (additional off-time administrative responsibilities) are assigned to a Research Assistant for which submission of a monthly report for the specific assigned duty is submitted to the reporting officer.
