DBS Global University had the profound honour of welcoming Shri Chandi Prasad Bhatt Ji, one of India’s most respected environmentalists, social reformers, and a Padma Bhushan awardee, for an enlightening session on campus.
A pioneer of the historic Chipko Movement, Shri Bhatt Ji has dedicated his life to protecting the Himalayan forests and promoting sustainable living rooted in community participation. His work has inspired generations to see environmental conservation not just as a responsibility but as a collective movement of care and conscience.
During the session, Shri Bhatt Ji spoke about the early days of the Chipko Movement, the power of grassroots activism, and how small acts of courage can create waves of lasting change. He emphasised the importance of reconnecting with nature, building stronger communities, and redefining development in ways that respect both people and the planet.
Students and faculty were deeply moved by his humility, conviction, and stories of resilience that shaped one of India’s most iconic environmental movements. The session served as a reminder that progress is meaningful only when it nurtures both humanity and the environment.
DBS Global University expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Shri Bhatt Ji for sharing his timeless wisdom, vision, and experiences. His visit left the university community inspired to carry forward his message of responsibility, sustainability, and hope for future generations.
