The third day of the ongoing Faculty Development Program titled “Recent Trends in Physical Sciences: Experimental and Conceptual Aspects (RTPS-25)”, organized by DBS Global University, witnessed an engaging and intellectually invigorating Interactive Session for School Teachers of Uttarakhand which brought together eminent Scientists Padma Shri Prof. Harish Chandra Verma and HOD Physics IIT Roorkee Prof. Vipul Rastogi.
The event commenced in the University auditorium with a warm Welcome Address by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Jasola, who set the tone for the day by emphasizing the importance of experiential learning and the confluence of tradition with innovation in Physical Sciences. He introduced the legendry Padma Shri Prof. Harish Chandra Verma Jee to the audience through heartfelt and inspiring Biography highlighting his monumental contributions to Physics education and research in India. His work continues to be a beacon for educators and students alike. He shared that Prof. Verma believes in simple living and high thinking. Prof. Verma provides financial aid to poor students who are willing to pursue education. It is quite surprising to know that he receives hefty royalty every year for his book which he donates to charity and the Prime Minister Relief Fund.
In a significant milestone for Science education in India, the Physics Bharat Yatra torch was ceremoniously handed over from HIM Anveshika (Himachal Pradesh) to the Uttarakhand Anveshika team in a solemn event hosted at DBS Global University, Dehradun.
The handover, held in the distinguished presence of Padma Shri Prof. H.C. Verma, India’s most respected Physics educator and founder of the Anveshika programme and Prof. Jasolla Ji, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of DBS Global University, marked the continuation of a national movement aimed at transforming physics education through hands-on learning and meaningful engagement.
The torch was passed from Sh. Dinesh Sharma Ji, Coordinator of HIM Anveshika, to Sh. Rohit Sharma Ji, Coordinator GDV Anveshika Dehradun for Uttarakhand.
The highlight of the day was the Interactive Session with Prof. Harish Chandra Verma, whose presence was met with immense enthusiasm. Prof. Verma engaged in a thoughtful dialogue with attendees, discussing not only the elegance of fundamental Physics but also its transformative role in societal development. He suggested the importance of thought-provoking experiments for the explanation of Concepts of Physics and Laws of Physics. Prof. Verma demonstrated some simple experiments. His team is working to develop experiments with low cost materials so as to reach in rural areas especially economic backwards areas.
Following it very useful session was conducted by Dr. Neha Choksi and Dr. Raghav in the University’s state-of-the-art computer labs entitled “Use of Generative AI and Its Various Platforms in Teaching-Learning Processes”. During the event a session on generative AI and prompt engeenering was also conducted to give all the participants a handson experience on various AI tools such as ChatGPT. Deepseek , D-ID, whimsical, notebook LM, Huristica , khanmego where the participants got insights in using these tools in their respective domains for their class room teaching and personal development . The resource persons for the session was faculty members of DBS Global University, Dr. Neha Choksi & Dr. Raghav Upadhaye
The gathering reconvened in the auditorium for an inspirational message of encouragement and blessings from Vice Chancellor Prof. Jasola. This was followed by an Address by Prof. Vipul Rastogi, Head of the Department of Physics, who praised the collaborative spirit of the event and underscored the role of Physical sciences in shaping future innovations.
Further enriching the session, Dr. Piyush Dua delivered an Informative Talk on the Future of Computing Era, sharing valuable insights into upcoming trends like quantum computing and Memristors. The closing segment featured an uplifting Address by the Hon’ble President of DBS Global University, Mr. Mohit Aggarwal Jee, who lauded the university’s commitment to fostering scientific temper and global relevance in higher education. The Vote of Thanks followed, acknowledging the efforts of all contributors.
The event was concluded with valedictory function.
