On December 7, 2024, the Department of Student Affairs organized a memorable trek to Khalanga, under the guidance of our Dy. Director, Ms. Shweta Dhyani. This event provided students with a unique blend of history, culture, and adventure, enriching both their knowledge and connection to nature.
The journey began with an early departure from the college at 7:30 a.m. The group made their first stop at the **Khalanga Yudh Smarak, Nalapani**, in Dehradun. This site stands as a tribute to the valiant Gurkha warriors and their legendary leader, King Balbahadur Kunwar dedicated by Britishers.
Here, the students delved into the untold stories of courage and resilience displayed during the historic battle of Khalanga between the Gurkha warriors and British forces. The stories of valor and courage shared by Ms. Shweta Dhyani, gave goosebumps to the listeners.
From the memorial, we proceeded to the trekking site, where the students further explored the rich history surrounding the Khalanga battle. Before embarking on the trek, everyone received refreshments to energize themselves for the adventure ahead.
The trek covered a 4.5 km stretch uphill, offering a serene walk through the pristine beauty of nature. As we made our way through the lush green forests and towering mountains, the significance of the Khalanga War Memorial became even more profound. Upon reaching the memorial, the students experienced a deep sense of pride in our culture and heritage. The breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape further enhanced this meaningful moment.
The trek was not just an exploration of history but also an opportunity to connect with nature, appreciate the bravery of the Gurkha warriors, and reflect on their invaluable contributions to our culture. With the presence and support of Dr. Ranjana Sharma and Mr. Sachin Bisht, this historical walk certainly will remain a cherished memory for all who attended.
