INTRODUCTION

The Stargazers Club at DBS Global University is a vibrant community of astronomy enthusiasts who share a passion for exploring the mysteries of the cosmos. Led by students with a keen interest in space science and astrophotography, the club serves as a platform for fostering curiosity and expanding knowledge about the universe. From stargazing sessions and telescope handling workshops to discussions on the latest astronomical discoveries, the club aims to bring the wonders of the night sky closer to students and faculty alike.

Visit to Vigyan Dham - UCOST- 5th Oct, 2024

Stargazers started the semester with a visit to Vigyan Dham for its clubs members. This dedicated Regional Science Museum field visit helped students to marvel on different aspects of science. Students explored the Himalaya Gallery, Innovation Hub, Frontiers of Technology Gallery, 3D Theatre, and the Planetarium show

Supermoon Observation Event - 17th Oct

The Stargazers Club organized a highly successful Supermoon Observation Event, attracting a large audience of students and faculty. Two advanced telescopes were set up, allowing attendees to witness the stunning supermoon in detail. In addition to the moon, Saturn and its majestic rings were also observed, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Planet Parade Event - 24th Jan

Stargazer club started 2025 by welcoming celestial adventure of Planet Parade. on 24th Jan , 2025, the sky was graced with the presence of Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars on the same night. The beauty of these planets and the space evolution was explained by Dr Chandrashekhar while the observation was led by Ms. Shweta Dhyani. Students saw the mystical rings of Saturn , the beauty of Venus , Enigmatic Mars and the giant Jupiter and were left planet-struck. The event was attended by faculty and students alike and they were treated with a bonus of deep sky nebula as well.

Stargazers Club Hosts Successful Planetary Alignment Viewing Event

On the evening of January 24, 2025, nearly 100 students and faculty members gathered under a clear night sky to witness a rare planetary alignment, hosted by the Stargazers Club. The event provided a unique opportunity to observe Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn through telescopes, sparking enthusiasm for astronomy among attendees.
The event, co-patroned by Dr. Chandrashekhar Bhoj and patroned by Ms. Shweta Dhyani, offered participants close-up views of the celestial spectacle. Venus shone brightly, its crescent shape easily visible. Mars revealed its distinctive reddish hue, while Jupiter captivated viewers with its cloud bands and the aligned Galilean moons. Saturn, with its iconic rings, drew gasps of wonder from the crowd.
“Seeing Saturn’s rings with my own eyes was an incredible experience,” commented one attendee. “I’ve always been interested in space, and this event has definitely fueled that curiosity.”
The Stargazers Club encouraged interaction and feedback through a suggestion board, which quickly filled with ideas for future events.
Suggestions ranged from hands-on telescope workshops and astrophotography sessions to live Q&A sessions with space scientists and stargazing camps during meteor showers.
“The feedback from the attendees has been invaluable,” As per Soham Mishra – Club President. “We’re excited to use their suggestions to plan even more engaging and educational events in the future.”
The planetary alignment viewing was deemed a resounding success, fostering a deeper appreciation for astronomy within the university community. The Stargazers Club plans to host more observational sessions, workshops, and stargazing events, continuing to ignite a passion for science and exploration. The club expressed its gratitude to its patrons, faculty members, the dedicated Stargazers Club team, and all participants for making the event a memorable experience. The event highlighted the power of shared experiences in fostering a collective interest in the cosmos.

Ms. Shweta is a certified amature astronomer and has participated in Nasa and ISRO s civil campaigns for the last 8 years. With her keen interest in science and education, she provides crucial support in organizing events, lectures, and workshops. Ms. Dhyani’s encouragement has been instrumental in fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity within the club, motivating members to explore the wonders of space. Her insights and guidance ensure that the club’s initiatives align with educational goals, and she actively participates in enhancing the club’s outreach programs.

This international win highlighted his exceptional skills in strategic planning, decision-making, and innovation. Under his guidance, the Stargazers Club has flourished, organizing successful events like the Supermoon Observation and engaging members in hands-on learning experiences.
